thoughts on this week’s sermon: romance & reality

I completely agree that any and all sexual sin and perversion is demonic.

The spiritual world and the physical world are closely intermingled:

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
(Ephesians 6:12 ESV)

And I would dare to say that Satan uses sex as one of his primary tactics because we fall so easily into this trap, temptation and believe the lies, the schemes of the devil. Schemes people. Deception is who Satan is. The Deceiver, the Accuser.

The reality is that sex was created to be a holy, beautiful, intimate, bonding between a husband and his wife. I believe it still is, in the right context.

It’s awful how perverted and far from God’s original intent it has gone.  The statistics we heard on Sunday and the state our world, our culture is in, is heartbreaking. Movies and music continue to portray sex as if it was meaningless, just look at the title of “no strings attached” and “hallpass”.

I believe that in this sin filled world there is nothing we can do to gain or lose God’s love. I do believe that he is honored when we do things his way, and I believe that God will honor us in return.

I urge you, arm yourself, hold fast, stand firm and wait.

I believe that a marriage that is started from a place of purity and integrity will be a marriage that is pure.

We need to stop pretending like sexual temptation in all it’s ugly forms are “natural” or not related to the spiritual realm. Wake up to the battle all around us, read Ephesians 6 about the Armor of God and make it a habit and pray that passage out loud.

This is war. Fight or Fall.
